Hello Everyone!

I am new to the website and forums but I have been metal detecting and prospecting since I was a kid (a long time ago in a galaxy, far, far away). I have experience with coin, relic and prospecting with metal detectors in almost all the western states. I prefer to hunt in long gone locations and I know how to do the research to find the vanished places of Ghostburgs.

Thanks everyone for making me feel welcome! Sue I have had some interesting finds. Choosing a favorite is tough because I have had financially favorite finds, historically favorite finds and intrinsically favorite finds.

Favorite financial find was a large mason jar full of Morgan dollars, Liberty Quarters, Liberty dimes and an antique gold diamond and ruby ring. Coins ranged in dates from 1880 -1892.

Favorite historical find was a gold plated over brass, railroad conductors badge TEKAMAH on the front and July 31 -95 on the back.

Favorite intrinsic find was a class ring from my mother's high school from when she was a junior. It turns out it was lost by a girl she knew and I was able to return it and put my mom in contact with her. They ended up becoming very close friends and continue to enjoy their friendship to this day.

Cheers all, Wiseguy

Sounds like you have a day or two of detecting under your belt. Is it easy to access the beaches in Cali. for detecting, or are a lot of areas off limits?

Thanks

Sean

Hi there Sean,

The beaches of SoCal are very easy to access. No problems with local authorities and usually plenty of parking, except during peak season. Only thing you have to contend with are other metal detectorist (they get up earlier than me), the beach-goers during the warms days  (of which there are a lot) and the debris sweeping methods used to clean the beaches (and remove good targets or drive them downward).

There are two excellent books on the subject of Southern California beaches by Donald A. Barthel, titles, Detecting Southern California Beaches and The Beach Hunters Guide. I have both in my library and they have helped me find the more productive beaches when I beach hunt.

Cheers,  Wiseguy

Sean,

We are still having summer down here,in SoCal, in the 90s today in Orange County. If you want to know some of the more productive beaches to hunt or where you can camp let me know and I will lend a hand with some info.
Cheers,   Wiseguy
