I got a ole coinmaster here but it just won't ground balance and only seems to work on a couple of settings. Wish I could get someone to look at it but being so old, I got told they don't work on them any more. I would love to be able to use it on the beach just because u can discriminate out the salt. Z.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.  I haven't had much reading time the past few days, my job has me working 12 hour days for a while and you know the old saying all work with no play makes for a dull life.

The only detecting I have done lately has been my backyard, so far I've gathered about a gallon's worth of old rusty nails and fence staples, and I have only been working an area about 10' x 20'.  I can discriminate the iron out but there is so much it is masking the signals from everything else.  My entire yard 100 feet x 100 feet seems to be filled with nails and broken glass.  If I lived in a new housing addition I could explain it but my house was built sometime between 1910 and 1920.  I know that up until about 1960 it was common for people to burn their garbage so I have to figure in about 50 years worth of burnt cans, bottles and misc. household goods but I just can't figure out why so many nails.

I live in Australia so the cost of postage will be more than the machine is worth without the repair work being done. I did contact a Whites distributor here but was told that they no longer service these old machines, so as yet have had no luck. Thanks for the contact info and I may yet try the main Whites factory just in case or to get a idea of what it will cost but am thinking I would be better just buying a new or good second hand machine. Z.

Hi Zoro!  I don't know where you live in Australia, but if you are near any cities of towns of much population, are there any independent electronics technicians or shops near you who might take a crack at repairing your detector?  Just a thought.  You are probably right that it would be cheaper to purchase a new or used detector as opposed to sending it to the States.  Good luck with it, whatever you decide.   Detecting

Thanks Arfie, that may be a better way to see if it is worth fixing. Maybe I can contact the Whites factory to get a schematics on the Coinmaster so that it will be easier for a local technician to fix it. Anyone have any idea of the email address for the Whites factory or home page? Thanks again, Z.

Which model of Coinmaster do you have? There are already several schematics here for various models. The Coinmaster 6000D, for example, is well represented.
