I believe white rhinos are found in Africa, not in Borneo.

You are half correct. Almost everyone knows they are found in Africa but the very wise know they are found in Borneo and Sumatra as well.

Thanks for the link...there's no mention of white rhinos in Sabah. The species of rhinos in Borneo are not the same as African white rhinos. WWF's page on white rhinos state their locale as Central and Southern Africa:

Hello All

I was not aware rhinos was in Borneo and Sumatra at all. I wonder how a species can be so far apart?

Just how many species of rhino are there?

Hardluck

Hardluck, I'm entering my 27th year on this island and I've only been able to view local rhinos in the wild twice; once on my land (which was next to approx 15k acres of jungle, and another time in Danum valley. They're smaller than their African cousins. We also have elephants here (which are also way smaller than those in Africa).

I'm no zoologist, but I believe the smaller sizes (probably achieved thru natural selection) makes getting round dense jungle much easier...we don't have much flat plains here.

Hello All

Thanks all for the interesting posts.

It amazes me it think how you can have the same or similar species thousands of miles apart.

Perhaps the species was around before when there was Gondwanaland and the continents broke up?

Or perhaps they migrated across the middle east before that region became a desert?

Hardluck

Nope...I don't see it. Title says "Rhino conservation: Rhino horn is NOT Medicine".
2 articles on that page...no mention of white rhinos in Borneo too.

142 articles on white rhinos in that site, all posted under "African Rhinos" section.

Assuming you are not pulling anyone's leg here, the link is about Sabah.

You assume correctly, no legs are being pulled on my part. It's the same link you gave the first time, am viewing using Firefox v3.6.13 and I still cannot find any mention of any white rhinos in Sabah on that page. Searched the page using the ctrl F function for keyword "white" and only found hyperlinks (on right side of page) to Northern and Southern white rhinos which are from Africa, not Borneo.
