Whites Eagle Spectrum
« on: September 18, 2009, 06:57:48 pm »
Go Up Go Down

Using a White's Eagle Spectrum I bought years ago. Still have an old BFO from Radio Shack also (still works)! Best find was an accident, without a detector at first. Leaning on the sid of a hog pen at my sister-in-laws ranch (in SoCal) talking to her about enlarging the pen, I saw a few little white disks in the mud by the licksit valve. I thought they were cardboard, but I bent down and picked one up. Rubbing off the film with my thumb, it was a mercury head dime. The other disks were too. We got a colander from the house, and I scooped up mud filled with coins into the colander and rinsed them off. I also found a broken glass mason jar. Next day I borrowed a detector from a neighbor and went back. Around a Juniper in the middle of the pen, I found 3 more jars, two of them with silver coins, and one with paper mush that was capped with a tin can instead of a lid. Altogether about $200 face value, latest date 1934, with a lot in the late 1800's. My brother-in-law, an attorney, took a sudden interest in numismatics and took possession of the coins, and sold them over a period of time. He eventually gave me some of the more worn coins which I still have. I have no idea what the other coins sold for.I'll post pics of the coins I have when I get the chance. Anyone near Bend, Oregon?

Great find story.  Makes you think, the best place to hide your money is in a hog pen or under the back yard dogs dish or the dog house.  I love to hear stories like that.

Welcome from Central Florida.
