Excalibur 1000
« on: October 03, 2006, 07:39:46 am »
Go Up Go Down

I have always been told that there was gold buried in the mountains of Colombia, South America. I bought an Excalibur 1000 with the intention of doing some beach combing. On September 1/06, I went to Colombia with the intention of doing that. While at it, I was introduced to a 'treasure hunter' and he took me to some farms in the outskirts of a mountain in Colombia and I found this piece that you see in the photo. It was aprox. 12 inches below the ground and I was shocked how easy it was to detect with this metal detector. My guide told me:"You need a machine that detects deeper than that, because most of the gold pieces left all over this area are found at 1 meter deep. My time was up and had to return to my 'normal life'.
I came back to the US and haven't stop thinking about this. I can't. I have already sold my Excalibur and I am planning to purchase a GP3500 Minelab. However, the area is so big that it would take me months to comb. If you think you would be interested in going down there with me in December, send me an email. I will arrange everything and discuss with you how to split. email: kneesoper@yahoo.com

That "little thing" next to the 200 peso coin is a Pre-columbian piece of a necklace, according to my guide. I don't know the weight yet. I will post that as soon as I find out.

Hello and welcome aboard!

Personally I'm also thinking about buying a minelab GP Extreme. They are often being sold for considerable little money (compared what they retail for new ...) on eBay.

I woudl want to think that a GP Extreme will serve you well as long as the area you are hunting is not trashy. If tehre's lots of junk and trash you might want to combine your detecting with a VLF machine and only dig up the depper targets that are not picked up by the VLF machine.

Please keep us posted regarding your finds. Good luck!

Sincerly,

Christian
