hello bill    i am from south central ill. town called Grayville  50 miles east of Mt.Vrenon and 50 miles WEst of Evansvillle Ind. the Wabash River is a good place to start if you are close to it.

Hey thanks, sorry I just got back to your reply but I had Computer problems  Cry. I been to Mt Vernon my wife has relatives there. Next time were there I'll check it out.

Sorry I had computer problems thats why i'm just getting back to ya. I have done the 2 local beaches in Essex Illinois and Coons Creek in Shelbyville Illinois. didnt find any old coins but Coons creek I puuled about $40.00 in change it was fun finding it. Are you from Illinois?

Do you have a local senior center? I have some of the best "Live Leads" in the world! Seniors are a gold mine of information! I have met some really nice folks that do remember when things were different and you know the good old days! They are just waiting for you to come and sit down to drink a cup of coffee and listen to their stories! ALSO Look on e-bay for old post cards in your area or State. There are hundreds of old pictures of parks, swimming holes ect. Just enlarge the pictures and get the city or address thats all you need. Then do a little research and go hunt as I say....what used to be!  Good luck!!
