I am new to treasure hunting and I am looking into buying a metal detector. I am focused on possibly buying a Minelab Eureka. My thought is that I will just start out with a high end version. I have a young son who I think will also enjoy this hobby as well. I may choose to buy him his own metal detector at a later time if he takes to this. Does anyone have any advice for me as a novice. We live in the far south-east corner of California in a place named El Centro, California. It borders on the Arizona and Mexico bordders.

Hey MP Welcome from Texas

There is tons on info here to help you make a decision about what detector to get. The Minelab Eureka is a good one but search around you may find one that better suits you.

Seldom

Welcome from Arizona.......use the search function at the top of the page and enter best detector (search entire forum).  You don't say how old your son is, but I'd check out Tesoros, Garrett 250's, White's Coinmaster, Fisher F2 and F4, or the Teknetics Alpha or Delta for him.   Heck you might even decide you like them for yourself.
