Lowrider,

There are several posts on here about Idaho gold. Try the search feature. If you are in the Horshoe Bend area directly east of you are Placerville, Centerville, Idaho City. Historic mining towns with lots of tailing piles from the big dredges.

Up on the hill south of Horseshoe Bend was the town of Pearl although I hear it's gone now.

You can use

to find areas which are not claimed. Watch for new claims though.

Good hunting!  Smiley

Good hunting to you up there - I'm sure it's still pretty chilly, so the digging might be a bit tough.

That's pretty good because that would make the soil nice and soft - and pliable!
