Hello, from North Carolina.

If you go to Google maps for the area your interested in, then click on terrain, you will get a topographical map you can print out.

This link here goes to the treasure quest website where there is  metal detectorist who is stationed on Okinawa looking for a hunting buddy.

I was stationed on the rock 35 years ago.  Nice being there, but I don't miss it.

Hey Ghost,

I too am new to metal detecting and I am located on Okinawa. I have gone hunting six or seven times here on the Island, and found a few silver coins as well as a bunch of modern Japanese clad.  It took me a little while to learn my machine and now I have some confidence in what I am doing.  I have stayed with the beaches, thinking that would be a little safer in regards of the UXO.

 I am in Okinawa city, close to Kadena.  Where are you?  I have been hoping to find someone to go treasure hunting with, but I never thought I would find anyone here on Okinawa.  You never see anyone with a metal detector around here....or so I thought.

Stay well
Ron Dutcher

   Greetings from utah;

      When i was in the Marine Corps I spent about two months on Okinowa, i believe that i was at the north end of the island at a place Camp Schwab.  i do know that there is concern for UXO (unexploded ordinance), however I don't believe it to be as great as you would expect.  historically speeking the majority of the fighting with Marines against Japanese forces was mainly in the cave and tunnel systems in the jungle.

     When I was there i spent quite a bit of time on the beach, in the water, and in the jungle a distance of about 500 meters fromt he shore line and never encountered any UXO.  however off the coast i did find bullets, tank treads, a horseshoe, as well as other metal objects from the war out in the ocean.  If you run across any type of cave, trench, or tunnel system, i would advise you not to venture to far, because i know that alot of hand grenades and mines are still in place.

     Good luck in your search and let me know how it goes, and tell that island hi for me, she a beautiful one where alot of heros on both sides of the conflict fell.
