That's a good way to do it....which is part of the reason we recommend reading through old topic threads if the subject interests you.   If you've read through a thread and you have a question regarding what you read either respond to the thread (even if it is old) if your comment is directly relevant or open a new topic with your question on the same board.

I can do that have lots of questions

   About the only time we might give you a hard time is if you ask the original poster if he ever found out what something was (especially if his activity bar shows he hasn't been around for awhile).   But that is mistake that everyone, including the moderators, makes occassionally.
    Our rule of thumb is as long as you are reasonably courteous, are not being purposely obtuse, and appear to be seriously interested in the subject (as opposed to either running up your post count or looking for a "fight") we're pretty flexible and tolerant.
