Hi Folks !

Was on Geotech Forum when I saw a link to this site and decided to pop over for a look.
After browsing a little, I was impressed and decided to join.

Looking forward to meeting members and sharing information about our mutual hobby.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Thanks for the nice welcome everybody !

A little short story follows, titled: How I got interested in metal detecting.
____________________________________________________________________________

It all started years ago when my wife Genie & I were having a party with next door neighbor's on our patio. Back then, my neighbor Tyrone & I would get together almost every weekend, play our electric guitars and have a brewski or two, as we were doing that day.

I was having a little trouble with my 14K gold wedding band catching on the guitar strings, so decided to hang it on one of the tuning knobs (Big mistake !). I was playing away when all of a sudden my neighbor's little dog crawled under the fence between our yards and attacked my dog !  I'm sure it was just a matter of protecting it's master from another dog.

Forgetting about the ring, I jumped up to stop the fight and afterward discovered the ring was missing. It obviously had zinged out into the grass....Yikes ! The dogs were fine, but after much searching we couldn't find the ring. My neighbor said he knew a fellow at work that had a metal detector and would asked him for assistance. Needless to say, I was now "in the dog house" with wifey ! Angry

Anyway, I staked out an area in the yard where the ring most probably landed and the following week the co-worker came to my house during his lunch hour and found the ring very quickly in the staked out area, as my neighbor later reported.

Man, was I ever relieved ! Back then, Genie & I were on a tight budget raising our children, so replacing the ring would have been a problem. That was our first encounter with metal detecting and we decided to buy a metal detector some day when finances allowed.

Well, as the years rolled buy and my salary increased, we finally decided to buy a metal detector, as a Christmas gift to each other. I researched first, then purchased a Garrett Ace250, on Dec. 21, 2005.

The End
____________________________________________________________________________

Thanks for letting me share a "little pinch" of my life !  Hope you enjoyed.

Todd  Smiley
