Go Up Go Down

I'm a recent retiree and just relocated to Oahu.  I've been a long time "armchair" TH'er (I still have old newsletter copies from the Examino Press, you old timers out there may remember it), but would now like to gear up and learn to hit the beaches here.  Checked around some, and there are no local resources for TH'ing I could find.

I could use some practical guidance on the most suitable detector to buy for sweeping dry sand, wet sand and knee high shallow water.  The number/types/styles/costs have proliferated in the last thirty years....quite confusing.  To add to it all, I've read where the mineral make-up of the sand here can pose a problem, along with all the high intensity military electronics in use - but have no way of verifying if true.

Any advice is welcome....glad I came upon this forum and resource!

Good luck to all out there.

Hello Hacksaw!

Welcome to THunting.com!

Searching at the beach and surf will require a machine that can handle the heavy mineralisation caused by the saltwater.

What's your budget?

There are several machines that come to my mind. One would e.g. be a Fisher CZ-20 / CZ-21. It can handle the mineralisation has good disc and is fully waterproof hence it doesn't matter if it falls into the ocean.

Good luck!

Best wishes,

Christian
