Yes , you have to use 12v batteries .  Lower current can be used but the detector will not work as good .  Cornelius

Is this one set up for two batteries or the original set up?

Because the transformer cannot be found anymore , this transformer has been replace by the second battery . This does not deminish the operation the slightest bit . The transformer created the second source of current  . Now you are using a second battery instead .  You may try using  two 9V batteries but they do not last long . For testing they are OK though .  Cornelius

Al . Do you see the two leads coming out of the detector  ?  Both of them need a battery . So.... you need two batteries  . To try the detector out use two  9V batteries . Later on in the field you can use  TWO 12 V batteries  . If the batteries are too heavy use a belt around your middle to cary them . Good luck . Cornelius

I'm thinking the battery being used in Lu of the transformer need not be a big one.

The voltage pump that the transformer made up only supplied like 100ma.

It was only used to supply the Op amps and things.

 Wise
The original supply was 10.5 Volt.

The one rail supplied 12v. derived via a voltage pump.

Yes Ali , the minimum voltage for operation in the field is  ( 2 times ) 12 V  . For temperary use you may use  two regular  9v batteries .  So , buy yourself two  9 V batteries  ( the regular little square ones  ) , click them into the two leads and start operating .  Turn sensitivity down till you barely hear it . Now your detector is set for operations . Only ...... the coils is using a lot of power  so the two little 9v batteries do not last long . If you hook up other power sources  be sure to hook them up right .    (  +   -+   -  ) . I hope you got it now !   Cornelius

sorry for sounding retarded, but when you said " 2 Times 12v " do you mean 24 volts in series or two 12v batteries in parallel , still confused. Do you mean it needs 12 volts to operate. ?

No Ali . We are not talking parallel or series . We are talking about two seperate batteries . That is why there are two leads .  So do as I told you . Just connect two 9V batteries to the two leads coming out of the detector and start working . ( later on change the two batteries  for two 12 V batteries  ) . I cannot be any more clear than this .     Cornelius
