Go Up Go Down

I had to shave my head so I'd stop pulling my hair out.  I've Google, Binged, searched, I have even done a "do you feel lucky search" and the only thing I've gotten out of it is a brain cramp   Crazy I need help from people that have actual experience with a sluice. The really small ones don't strike me as being able to handle more than a few tablespoons at a time. The bigger ones(40''+) are maybe a little to big to haul up the side of the mountain every day. My question is actually 2 fold,

what would be a good intermediate box that maybe l could add on to later?
who are the dealers of sluices in canada?
Shipping from the US is ridiculous, a $129 part by UPS cost me $221 just in shipping cost!

Any help would be much appreciated.

BB

Go to your local Air conditioning duct work fabricator.

I had one built standing there telling him what I wanted in less the 30 minutes.

Cost?  $35 dollars, material and time.

Mine was 8" wide, 4" side walls, Riffles 3/4 inch every 5 " 7 each.

Made the Riffles on a bar that could be pulled up for cleaning with plain old Indoor Out door carpet under it.

It worked so well some one stole it.   Wise

hi bert.  i understand why you want something light.  i have a keene a 52 sluice, and while i really like it, it does get pretty heavy after a couple miles hiking in somewhere rugged.  i have been doing some searching for you, but i havent had much luck either.  the affordable, light weight abs plastic sluices i've found have terrible reviews.  that being said, i think i would try building my own, or check out an air duct shop like was mentioned in a previous post.   there are tons of plans online, especially on most of the mining supply sites.  sorry i couldnt be more help pal.  happy hunting!

Le Trap Sluice made in Canada.
This is the best sluice for your area, and weighs only a few pounds. Don't be afraid of the plastic. it is strong.  I have one, along with a proline sluice.

I have a Keene 4' sluice and a 24" plastic backpack sluice. While the smaller sluice doesnt handle a huge volume it does work well and is less than 2 pounds. It has good riffles and miners moss. The big thing in small sluices is watch your water volume and feed slowly so the gold has a chance to settle and not wash out the back. Short sluices have a greater chance of loss, but its a tradeoff for light weight.

What I look for in a good sluice is the riffles and catch material like carpet or miners moss. The Keene sluice is top notch, but not cheap and much heavier to haul far. The body is aluminum but the riffles are steel and the carpet retains water making it heavier to carry after use. They also sell a conversion kit to turn it into a dredge if you are so inclined later on.

If you have tools, skill, and time they are easy to build. Also easy to pay for at todays gold prices if you have a good spot to set up.

Thanks to all for the feed back, I've decided to go with the Le Trap to start off with, low cost light weight and no mats sounds about right for me..until I find some gold of coarse. Grin

I have 3 sluices,a Keene A52,a 10"x24" aluminum sluice, and a Henry- Henry that I built. The only sluice I use now is the Henry-Henry,it cost me less than a dollar to build,it weighs nothing and its the most efficient sluice I have ever used.
