for those of you who have never seen mining done by hand, 1800s style, here are some pictures i took of the french diggings near sumpter oregon. this was a huge placer streak that was excavated all by hand by a group or family from france. as they made more $ they would send it back to france to allow more people to emigrate to america and help with the digging. blows my mind to see the amount of work accomplished by these people. a friend and i tryed detecting in the trenches hoping they missed a nugget or two, but only found bullet casings and lead. i hope these pics are ok as i had to resize them down to load them. enjoy pj
