Last Saturday I when south of home turf with a forum buddy who happens to live in this area to his beach honey hole. We spent the day running black sand through my MacKirk 5"W X34"L and his longer & wider Le Trap.  I came away with a couple of pounds of black sand cons and then on Monday I ordered a Blue Bowl kit. When it gets here it will be processing time and hopefully the shine of of gold in the bowl.

Oh, lovely tempting black sands. On the Mawddach and Wen they are red magnetic. Is there a variation of colours between real black to red there?

Not that I've seen, the stream that trickled down and over the beach had black sand in it.  If you scrape off the upper layer of the beach sand (over burden  Wink ) you come to a layer of black sand, scive off that layer and put in your pan or bucket and when you have a load go sit down and feed your sluice.  Yesterday I had a thought, look out the roof may fall in, that with gold being heavy shouldn't you also work the 1 or 2 inches of sand under the black, I might try that the next time.

I've also been using Google Earth to look for stream out falls on the beaches a little closer to home.  The big problem is getting to the beach with my bad knees as a lot of places of access have a drop of 20, 30 or 40 ft. and the tracks down are unimproved and can be a trick for healthy knees to navigate.

Take care,
Gramps

Oh er, don't get stuck down there. I once descended into a ravine, easy to slide down the bank, but I should have included a rope in the kit. Took an hour to slide back up again. Anyhow, my black sand look red in the black pan, but more generally black in the blue pan. Is it the same with yours? And at some locations there are no black sands with the gold at all.

Nope they are black no matter what, My sluice is gray, my pan is green and the bucket is white and they are black in all cases.
I had the same problem some years ago, scramble down an incline to test pan a section of stream.  When I attempted to scramble
back up the dirt just kept giving way and I was making zero progress.  I had the look around for a firmer place to get back up to the road.

Gramps I have a Clone made by someone out of Aluminum.

Yes it works sorta.

You need to use a DC Water Pump to maintain constant water.  Being on a well system my pressure varies more then the city folks does.

I need to send you a photo of the Sands I live in.

Ancient Alluvial River system full of black sands.

I know as a fact there is Micron Gold in this stuff.

When we get the Flood twice a year, black sands aboud.

I've pull 1/10 gram of gold out of a few hundred lb's of this sand by Gathering the Black sands and Halide Leach.

Gotta figure a better way.
