I'm always thankful when I get a reminder that I have not been here for a while, it gives me an excuse to escape the rat-race..."May there always be gold at the bottom of your pan!"

Thank you Christian  Grin

This concept of micron gold recovery is new to me. I did find a site through a link on another site that had some info but it was a commercial website. Are there any unbiased published materials to read?

Cptbil, you have my undevided attention on your recovery system! How many GPM are you able to process and what is the cost to build such a thing? Is it something you plan to market/manufacture or sell plans or give it away? I am surely interested whatever the answer. Seems to me to be the way to go.

Beren:
NAH
I have no plans at all to build and sell them!
Why would I want to do all of that, Four Letter Word "WORK"   Shocked
When I can just be sitting along side a nice stream, reading a book,
While my Recovery Machine is running along & pulling in....see the bottom for the $$$$ figures!
Besides !
They are easy enough for anyone to build...takes very basic knowledge/tools and some time!
Build with 3" pvc (Mine is!) and with my 2", 4hp waterpump, pushing NO MORE! than 8 gpm per filter !
OR!
You'll dislodge the micron gold from the filters   Undecided
I, expect to push 120+- gpm thru the unit!
This is at , I hope? Anyway!, a water sample, assaying at, say, 4-5 cents a gallon!
NOW!
5 cents a gallon !Yep!
That's a pittley sum!  Sad
WELL! Now Let's ....
Figure that, .05pg, x 8 gpm x 60 minutes (an hr).... x the 15 filters !!!!
WHOOIE!  Shocked
'Cus!,
Now! we're getting .... $__.__ Huh?
&
That's a really nice hourly wage !
BUT!
Now! Take ....
That above number .... time 8 hrs !
Even better as a daily wage!   Grin
SO!
What does your math skills, come up with, per hr/day ?

Ok, my math skills say that's $360. per hour or $2,880. per day! Even at .01 cent per gallon that comes to $72. per hour or $576. per 8 hours. I could live on that awhile  Grin

Do you plan to do the refining yourself or some service you have to pay or share to have it done? Are there such places that will refine for a fee or share? The chemistry involved to refine is over my head.

Wondered if you have thought of setting up a hidden filtering system set up to run with a RAM pump?  Would that be practical?  You could check it ever so often and would need no external power to run it! It might be more practical though now that I think about it some, to operate the hidden unit on a siphon system. It would give you more water and the same flow regardless of stream flow conditions.

Here's how I kinda see it. You could have a siphon line from an elevated pool providing your water to the filter unit. It could be used for a hidden filtering system or your day trip times as well. Search "gravity dredge" for the concept but you would only be getting the water from the elevated pool instead of sucking up material. 100' of 2 inch hose at only a few feet of elevation would give you all the water you wanted with no gas or pump needed. You could put a valve there on your system to regulate if needed. Now how could any environmentalist argue with that type of system  Grin

How do you extract the attracted gold and other precious metals from the carbon once it is collected?

Beren:
There have been people who have set up and used gravity flow systems, of different sorts .....such as your mention: a RAM Pump
or a gold dredge..
BUT!
To have a gravity flow system requires that you have to right conditions....
A place where you can have height above your recovery system to have the proper pressure ( called "Head").
Which, I think runs, 1/2 pound 0f pressure, for every foot of elevation ?
I'm not sure that those figures are correct, I'd have to check to be sure!
But!
All of this is getting off of the subject !
I have plans for a "Leaching" system that will extract the gold from the filters!
It requires a couple of plastic tubs and a place to allow the "Leaching process" to run it's course..
This is about 24 hrs !
In which time, you go back, refill your filters, with new   Activied Coconut Carbon ....
$50 +S/H per 50 lb bag!
The "ACC" is Reused & Reused  !!!!

Start your pump up and set back and wait for the next cycle of extraction!

So your investment seems rather small compared to the returns possible.  Is your leaching system complicated?

Nope!
It's basically,
You, disconnect and dump your filter(s) material into the tub, filled with water and chemicals
Let them sit for about 24 hrs..
Carefully siphon the top portion of water/chemicals
You will be left with a reddish/brown sludge !
This IS! your gold!
You can cook this over a fire (in a metal pan) and you'll end up with
Nice Gold things on the bottom !

That sounds pretty easy enough  Cool

So when can we look forward to a detailed How-To DIY on this system and methods?  Like you said somewhere earlier you would be the first one to actually compile and report results and methods. Most info on this subject is sketchy far as I can tell. It would be nice to have a complete from stream to gold in the pan instruction manual of sorts...where to get needed materials, etc. Is this a possibility?

Sorry for all the questions cptbil...from my reading, or rather trying to read up on this subject, your explanations seem to be the best I can understand. I would sure love to get with you sometime and see al this stuff firsthand if that would be possible.

Benen:
You're right!
I have run into the same thing..
I have to go here, then there, over here, then...!!!
Just to try and piece it all together...
Since I have..
It dawned on me, as you said, why not piece it all together!
Put it all into an eBook
AND!
Sell it...!
I don't think that people should object to a few dollars, of which, I WILL! donate some %, to a few of my favorite "Children Organizations"
AS your figures showed, a person can quit and go full time..
AND!
Actually make a HECK! of a lot more money than they are right now!
BUT!
NOW!
All I need to do, is to figure out how to set up an "e-Book!"
!!!!!
I gotta go feed the livestock .. be back as soon as I can !
