Nice work, great gold. Grin

Here is a ice age rock and gravel map of Upstate NY.
The yellow is four levels of density. I have the data
for the whole US, so if you would like one for your
area just ask., oRo

Map changed to westernNY below

The 'western part' is a big area. If you give the nearest town I can make a more detailed map.

I have a buddy in Indiana who pans for glacial gold somewhere southeast of Chicago. He does quite well but it's a lot of work and you surely can't make a living on it. it's strictly a hobby.

jsgoldny; The yellow is where there is ice age rock & gravel moraine, which often carries gold.  It is in four levels, the darker it is the denser thicker the gravel-rock is. It is often under a layer of modern fill, so finding it is the most important part. Generally on top of hills and steep hill sides where there has been erosion is a good place to look. Also, any place where someone is digging deep holes. Sometimes a stream will cut into the moraine. Road cuts may expose some. You have to do some detective work and poke around some. The very best place to find gold is in saddles. This is the low area between two closely spaced high hills where the material has been trapped. You will have to tunnel down to get at it in many cases though. If you find nuggets and gold on their steep sides close to the saddle then it may be worth the trip. Some of these types of pockets have been found while digging air shafts for deeper workings. Say where a gravel layer is found under 20 feet of clay in a saddle between two tall hills.

oRo, there is gravel north of branchport and a gully that is cut out and has gold. Another place that has gravel cut trough by gully and that is in Pultney on west side half way down the lake. It doesn't show yellow but that gully is loaded with gold. Thanks for the maps they do help. jsgoldny Smiley
