[crazy]Started three weekends ago and finally finished my Puffer Drywasher. The problem was the type of motor to use. I finally went with a windshield wiper motor for this thing and it works great in the back yard. Ha Ha Ha........ Going to go out to a site with a local club here the last part of the month. Then, I will see how it really does.
The windshield motor rotates about 35rpm on high and is way to slow on low. I am going to make a plug for this thing so I will be able to hook it up to my truck when out in an area or just use an old car battery that I have laying around here. I would post some pictures, but it is to dark outside. So, I will post some later, maybe tomorrow after work.
[angry]The first motor I used was from an old garage door opener (115vac) motor worked fine with out the bellows hooked up, but it was not strong enough to lift the bellows (1/10 hp) not enough torque. I got the windshield motor from a local salvage (U-Pull It) for $16.00 which beats the retail auto parts store by about 50-60 dollars.
So if anyone is looking for plans to build a puffer drywasher, you can get the plans from a local book store or mineral store. The book is called "The Art of Drywashing FINDING GOLD IN THE DESERT" it cost is about $5.00 and instead of using a large pulley for a crank, just install a windshield wiper motor. The bracket I made to mount the motor is made out of an old alumunum speed sign (1/8" thick) I got for free from a friend that does road work. I also got to use the Craftsman Table Saw that I got for Free on the local Craigs list. The total cost to build this thing was less than $40.00 and that includes the windshield motor.
Good luck to all and this thing is fairly light and can be modified to make it a backpacker with a little imagination.
