i was told by an old miner and geologist to look for sulfide weed.  that sulfide weed only grows on top of silver veins.  something that the silver oxide kills plants except that sulfide weed only grows on top of silver veins and no where else so if you familiarize yourself so as to recognize it youd get good results. through some looking it might be called silver weed but i havnt found any photos of this exact weed/moss/plant this is.  any information appreciated.  thanks chad

Perhaps if you ask that on any of the Arizona gold forums you'll get your answer as many prospect in Nevada...

Take it from an herbalist, there are many, many local names for plants, try sulfur (sulphur) weed, I have heard of that name, but not sulphide weed which may be his personal variation.

Silverweed, in most cases, is a cinquefoil or an artimesia (like silver-mound,) Then there is silver willow, also know as Russian olive and wolf willow. Silver tends to be a dry country foliage as most plants or shrubs, with this kind of foliage occurs in such places. Silver willow, here, likes dry, sunheated gullies.

Probably the weed grows there because it is dry, also, and little competition, as well. I have head of this plant associated with silver, before.

If you do see him again, get a sample of the weed and look it up in a GOOD book on botany, herbology, or? Then upload a photo, so we can see this weed.

It is interesting and I have read that some plants favour certain metallic compounds or metals, period. They CAN be analysed for metal content, as a consequence. Gold in particular.

Keep on it.  Shocked
