I'm aware that there may have been possible topics on this, but I decided to put it down.  I specifically would like to focus on coins, but my metal detector is forcing me to dig up everything that it beeps on.  Anyways, what is a very good book or recommended one on coinshooting.  Thanks for any listings.

I can recommend two good books.
"Coinshooting...How & Where To Do It" by H. Glenn Carson
"The New Successful Coin Hunting" by C. Garrett

Thanks for the listings.  The Charles Garrett book had some negative reviews on it, but I'll probably buy both at a cheap and reasonable price, and see for myself.  Again, thanks for the listings. Wink

Just got another good one, read it last nite. It's called"Coin Hunting...In Depth" by Dick Stout.
I got it on Amazon for about $8. Its a good read, learned a few more tips on disc and threshold settings. He's a White's XLT guy, but he's got lot's of usefull info.

ok books can be useful, great for the beginner,,,but any experienced detectorist can see and feel a good site for moderen coin shooting ect, nothing against books at all,and I think an experienced detector user can put pen to paper, whats is important is to research the area you live in,where where the fair grounds 100years ago, where did people go swimming before we had modern swimming pools ect,use to be an old lake there before they filled it in in the late 40ties,ask your self these questions, talk to the older people living in your area,I remember talking to some old man in the beergarden years ago,he told us just before the Americans arrived in May 1945,he and fellow soldiers dumped weapons into the local stream,so we went there and belive me he was right, guns helmets ammo rounds, you name it it was there,ok rusted to bits. You are on the right track as I can see from your finds, well done again, and great to see the grand son getting into this great hobby,But go from your own feelings,,some times I see a place and I know some thing got to be there,a book can give you some tips, but its not going to dig coins and relics for you,,,,research, research and research...mikek

Mike..I agree wholeheartedly with you. Now that I'm hooked on the hobby, seems like everywhere I go, I'm looking at the surroundings..bet there is stuff in that park, bet people gathered around that lake...etc.
Most times I read is before falling asleep, maybe picking up a tidbit or two that I'm still unsure about. The books are a great way to begin, and I couldn't read enough before I actually started hitting the ground.
My son has got the bug now with his Prizm III and my grandson is still on the edge, he needs to be constantly finding coins or he looses interest! Figure...he's just 13. Wink
