  the coolest thing about any historical artifact or find...is the mystery of who the people were that used the artifact.  Who were they?  Why did they do it things this certain way?  I don't know....I just think that it is fascinating...thank you everyone for your input, and thank you Ian for the information on your wifes uncle.  If he is still alive, I hope that you seize the opportunity to learn everything you can of his history and his story, thank you once again

The Japanese Army used horses in China back in the 1930's.  So they probably had horses on Okinawa too.  My Dad was in the Mountain Infantry [I think it was called] with Gen. Mark Clarke's 5th Army in Italy.  He said the mountains in Italy were all straight up and down ha.  They used mules to carry the big stuff.

You can buy some liquid stuff at hardware store its new that u just dip iron in it and it comes out clean without any scrubbing, seen it on tv this past week looks like a new piece of iron and it doesnt eat things up. You can even put your hands in it.

I found a mule shoe , which is a little smaller than a normal horseshoe,good find Rider
