You need to put something in your pictures for scale a ruler or coin.

Looks like a pulley where was it found and do you have a date on site?

I'd have to see the other side before I can say whether i agree with jere or not. If the other side looks like a broken pocket watch or like it could have held a pocket watch sized mechanism, then I vote with jere. If not----then the hunt is still on.

One thing, though, if you found it in the same area as you've been turning up your military finds, it strengthens jere's case. This items were popular with some staff officers for keeping track of troop progress.

It looks very much like this with some small wheels on the tip,back is flat with 3 small rivets
Probably battlefield find
