Found these in the spring,and it looks like I didn't post a pic of them I think they arre "muzzle protectors" from maybe a "Snyder Enfield" they are from the 1850/60's time, they both have a Brit crown stamped on them..

What is the diameter of the musket ball?  I just found one a few weeks back and the diameter is .680 and weigh 30 grams.   That size musket ball dates back to 1777.   I am located outside of Philadelphia and the British marched into the town I live in in 1777 to burn homes and a gun powder mill.    I found the post below where some one is selling them.

Original Item: Discovered under a brick floor in the old palace of Lagan Silekhana in Kathmandu, Nepal in February 2003, these original lead musket balls were issued with the .75 cal. third model Brown Bess muskets and used during the War of 1812 and the Napoleonic Wars. Given as military aid to the independent Country of Nepal at the Treaty of Sugauli on December 2, 1815 when Nepal, never part of the British Empire, came under British influence. Obsoleted in the 1850s when Britain standardized on the .577 cal. these Brown Bess musket balls have probably laid undisturbed for nearly 150 years. Original antique British lead Brown Bess Musket balls. 5 pieces. Just Amazing.

Hi Joe,
The ball in the pic is a brown bess callibre only it is .700" dia but does have a crust of lead oxide on it.
I have found thousands of ball around the battle sites of 1812 and many on housing developements I have included a pic of most of them for you to see, there are many strange callibres in my collection.....HH...Johnnn

Hi John,

That's a nice collection and here I am with one little musket ball.  lol   I am going back to the park where I  found it and switch to relic mode.  I was using an "old trashy coins program"  on the etrac and will open it up to see what else  is buried.

Hi Joe,
I don't know your soil conditions where you are but here in Canada I find most of my musket balls at around 10" with some at 6" so you may find more if you can search deeper........HH.........Johnnn

John,

The ball that I found was  six inches  deep and It was about three feet from the road. Maybe  it was dug up when they built the road?  Near the park there's a road that will  be widen from two to four lanes and hoping that will the loaded with goodies.
