Go Up Go Down

Today in a Chicago woods, my wife hit it again with this old spoon, probably from the 1940s, and stamped The White House.  Clapp  It was made by the Oxford Silver Plate Co. What a nice and unexpected find  Kiss  Not in the best condition, but a great find nonetheless. Hey, maybe it can be restored to its original beauty  Idea I could not find any info online. If anyone can help, it would be appreciated.

No, better yet is to have it restored by Rick's Restorations in Vegas and then sell it to Pawn Stars  Grin . Hey I'll be twice on TV!!! Well, it is what it is, phony or not. Not claiming that it came from the Presidents' House, but some research as to the origin of the marking is worthwhile I think.

Its not from the white house or it would have the presidential seal on it and be much more decorated. Thinking it was made for a restaurant or B&B . This is one of them times if you want to know more it will take a trip to the county records dept. and the local library archives.  Would be worth the time to help you date the site.

Yes, also I save pieces of pottery, dishes, trash, whatever....for pics, and to take to the pros in those areas to help get dates. If I think a site is over 150 years old, I'll spend the time to research it well over the winter. The trash pit areas (holes for tossing garbage in and burning) are great places to find valuable bottles, dishes, etc... When they toss them in.....not all of them break. Some of the small bottles are big $$ like ink wells, medicine bottles and such. They dont break as easy as the larger bottles, and people that know about dishes, bottles etc... can date them for you, even if only in pieces. So save that trash!   Cool

Yeah, I agree. Probably not a place in or near Chicago, but somewhere in the nation or abroad. There were a few places called The White House in the Us and abroad. Hey, but I was close to hit the jackpot!  Cheesy
