Just been out around the headland of a new site I have, and in a couple of hours found these.. Buttons, Musket Ball, Broach, Coin, Lead Trade Weight, Spoon. cant wait for the field to be ploughed and have a good explore.. The site is just south of topcliffe..in North Yorkshire (UK)
My parents own the field and several more surrounding it !! problem is that the fields are leased out. but should be able to get a few weeks detecting on them once they are ploughed..
A wooden bridge was certainly built here before 1227 when a Royal
Mandate was issued for four Oaks from the Forest of Galtres to repair the bridge at
Topcliffe which at that time was broken down. This bridge was a favourite rendezvous
for Parliamentary Troops during the Civil War. as thence they departed to either Carlisle
or Newcastle, or to both. In 1640 when the Scots were advancing South, 12,800 men
were lodged between York and Topcliffe Bridge, when they talked of insurrection in
1663 the rebels were said to have chosen this as their meeting place and to have marched
to Northallerton with "Freedom". as their password.
