Hello people i have found this butterfly, it looks like it maby went on a necklace but it is fairly large (just under 3 inches wide) Does anyone have any idea how old it could be and was it jewlery? Its the same each side a little bent on wing edges. Also the lead weight has a hole in the top similar to a fishing weight. Is it a fishing weight or did lead weights like this have other purposes? as it was nowhere near a river or lake. Thanks all  Smiley  HH     Detecting

Looks like a fishing weight.

Butterfly looks like it could have been a Bolo Tie peace as well as a pendent.

I'd go with a clip for hanging curtains before I went with bolo tie, I think---especially since bolo ties never were anywhere near as fashionable in the UK as they have been in the US Southwest.

Back in the 1960s, it was fashionable for women to wear clips and a chain to hold a cardigan style of sweater across the collar without having to button it. The butterfly looks like one of those clips. The actual jewelry would look like two butterflies joined by a chain of about 6 inches. Attached is a similar style of clasp and chain for a sweater.
