This area was found thirty years ago by me and some friends. I got on Google earth about four years ago and started combing over potential areas to check out. This was found in central Colorado and the area is about twenty square miles to look at. Most of this was found in couple of weekends in five different locations. All the camps have been hit hard for the past thirty years and the new sites have been hit for the last four years. It is time to find the next honey hole. When you find a camp I have spent an entire day in the space of fifteen feet square picking up metal. The great thing about these sites is your discrimination is all the way off and all signals are something.

At what depth do you get the majority of your finds? Here in SA it's about 150mm as the soil is hard and rocky (Gauteng)

It is various depths and depends on the location, I have found a good sized ax at 2 1/2 feet all the way to it being on the surface. but most items are found 4" to 10" range. the soil has a high iron content(red soil) but not really compact so digging is easy. The only real problem is it has a lot of hot rocks.

Yes I hear you. I have the same problem here in SA. I'm using a home brew PI detector and it picks up any sort of iron and in some areas I cant even think of detecting that's how bad the mineralisation is, in short the PI is not a good machine for this kind of soil but great when it comes to the beach and salt water. I have decided that it was time for me to get a VLF machine in order to do more detecting and less setting and also to have more fun. What kind of detector are you using?

I am using a Whites MXT. I really like the detector for finding relics, it makes short order for depth and pin point. When I first got it it took a little time to tell some signals apart, but with the display screen giving me an idea of what it is and now with the sound I can pick out a hot rock but still dig some up from time to time. when I bought it they had a model that was better, but my friend told me not to get it. He said with the ease of use this detector vs the other I would find just as much with less tuning. Since he is a dealer he was losing money by sell me the MXT.

I travel and take it with me everywhere I go you never know what is below.
