My idea for getting rid of the moisture in your garret is to wrap a plastic bag round the housing and stuff loads of those silica gel bags that drives out moisture (often delivered in shoes and electronics), they will take care of your problems.

That's quite an idea! Thanks Niobium. Smiley

Sorry i forgot to mention, don?t have Silcagel bags placed in products being used outdoors since then it will attract more moisture, its just to remove moisture from electronics and clothing, preventing oxidation and mold. Smiley
Otherwise it is a perfect way to dry out your electronics without any risk of applying heat sources risking melting of plastic items.

Good luck kendavid, and let us hear about the results.

Well quizpro21, this particular site isn't the first site heavy laden with iron and I came up with the idea of using a magnet to remove it (I'm sure I wasn't the first to think of that). It worked so well that you will never find me without a good magnet in my pocket. It's a real time saver. Also, my eyes aren't gettin' any stronger and the magnet finds easily what I can't even see!  Shocked  Grin . I thought maybe passing along this simple tip might help others here also. I hope so anyway. Wink

What a great idea, Niobium, using those silica packs. Bet it will work like a charm.

Ohh, i could give you guys another little helping idea, if you have any broken standard size (3.5") harddrive for a computer at home, the contain 1 - 2 very strong magnets,  dissamble the top of the harddrive and you will find magnets on each side of the rear part of the reading arm, these magnets are so strong so you can actually pull out big soft dent?s on car doors.

But please be adviced, if you store one of those babies in your pocket in close distance of your wallet it will suck out your magnet strips in the credit cards, also it will activate the alarm in the entrance of stores if they have anti-theft devices applied on their products.

Otherwise these magnets are very thin and strong, mount them on a fishing line and use them in holes or dragging a stream from a bridge above. Smiley

Good luck to you all!

//Niobium - Tony

Thanks, Tony. Now I know a good place to search for stronger magnets to use for my "claw" design (simple garden claw with integrated strong magnets).  Wink God bless and HH to all,
Ken

PS. If any of you guys here want to market this idea it's fine with me. I just hope to help others with their love for digging. I don't think there is a patent here so GO FOR IT if you like. Only, "balatong mo nalang ako", which means just give me a little blessing from your success. God bless all and HH, Ken. Wink

The magnets in hard disk drives are rare earth magnets, sometimes even Niobium magnets! They are very brittle and will crack into bits if you let them clack together or against the head of your claw. Even a metal object being attracted to it can leap up and crack the magnet. The best way to integrate them for use with a tool is to glue one at the end of a wooden handle and put a thin rubber cap over it. That will protect the magnet yet still allow you to quickly turn it around and see if there's any iron or steel in the soil. If you try that, a round rare earth magnet would be much better than the kidney shaped ones that are normally found in hard disk drives. They're not that expensive.

Also, if you want to have it really handy all the time, glue one to the end of a short length of dowel drilled for an elastic cord which you wear around your neck. Put that plastic or rubber protective cap over it and when you need it, stretch it down to your work area and let it sniff for iron or steel. When you are finished, let it go back to its resting place around your neck.
