Hi RD,
That looks like a "solid" shot hollow shot are the ones you have to be carefull with they contain black powder and lead shot, if they dry out the powder becomes explosive again.
Nice find........Heres a pic of mine from the Niagara area....HH,,,Johnnn

Hi RD,
If you are able to convince a collector that it is from the war of 1812 or earlier the value lies in the hands of the collector who would make you an offer.
I haven't sold any of mine yet, I have donated two 24 lbdr's to a local "armoury" for them to display along with other "dug" items.
I did see one on kajiji for $80 but who's to say if it was a genuine ball.
The curator of 1812 items for "Fort George" told me he regularly buys 1812 artifacts from that site and puts them in his museum but he would know the real thing........................................HH....Johnnn

Thanks Johnnn I do know the local curator at fort malden I'm going to take it to him for a look. I'm planning a trip up your way this year and  I was also looking up the Battle of Ridgeway 1863 as a potential spot  and was wondering if had a chance to look around there.

cheers Ryan

Hi Ryan,
Yes I have been to Ridgeway on several occasions, got permission to hunt a good site and found a dozen bullets from that battle.
That site was sold when the lady owner died and is now a subdivision.
The main area's are owned by some very "stiff" people they would not allow us onto their land, the reason is most of them are horse breeders and some of their animals are "thourough bread" horses so they were worried about them being spooked, but its a nice location ask around you may get lucky...........Let me know if you do find anything...Johnnn

Great find, I love relics. I like my old mouser rounds here Im looking for, but anything bigger than that is staying where I find it. Glad it was a solid. Just too cool.
