Go Up Go Down

Well, persistence didn't pay off this time. Sad
My fourth attempt to find silver coins at this location failed.
My first dig after only 5 min revealed a 1921 penny Shocked  I was so jacked!!! Crazy
The 1921 penny proves the area is plenty old, and yet another 1965 quarter to tease me.  Angry
The trash here is so dense that it took about 3hrs to travel 50 ft.
I've determined that a layer of sand was added since I'm finding cans at 10-12".
It's possible that a house was located near where I  Detecting
There is some evidence that suggests  Detecting may have been heavy in 1967, 1984 and again, recently.
If I could find someone locally, who has a high end detector, I'd like to go back and see how they would deal with the trash and crazy ground conditions compared to my Cibola.
Any takers?

Turn your sense down hit it and clean up.

Go back over it again and again.

The good stuff is down there.   Huh?

Turn your sense down hit it and clean up.

Been running at about 8 on the dial. Just low enough to make sense of what I "see" and get stability too.
If the trash thins out, I run the thresh at around 12:00 (just audible hum) in all metal and can "see" the deepest coins then switch to disc, with the thresh pegged to check consistency.(sweeping disc)
Exactly how low do you suggest I should run the sens in high trash areas?
There's much I need to grasp so I can decide how and when to make adjustments for maximum find efficiency.
Sometimes I'll travel 100' and have to turn the sens so far down, then I check ground balance and it's 3/4 turn hotter than before...all of a sudden, stability again!
Please explain the pros/cons, ins/outs of finding the best "spot" for my sens VS disc VS thresh VS GB.
I get a little impatient on finding silver coins when I hear about guys in Chicago finding 317 silver coins in a year!!
Any tips to wring those buggers out of the ground would be a blessing!
Thanks Homey!

I would turn it down until you can pick out single targets..

Recover it and keep going.

Eventually your going to clean the place up and the good stuff will show up.

From the looks of the junk your pulling out, it might pay to save all the aluminum tabs and pieces of the cans. First your cleaning the area your detecting up so that you may find the good stuff under all the junk and second since your digging it anyway you might as well make a little cash for your effort. Just a suggestion.  Cool

Hi Hector. Months ago I was in your same predicament. I also read about those Chicago guys, but let me tell you, those guys are not new to MD. They are experienced hunters that study old maps, do research, hunt in old estates, etc. Their machines have been programmed for deep seeking and so they also dig out tons of trash to find a few good coins. Another thing, they dig every signal from their machines and have found silver coins and jewelry among trash. That, I learned from them and since then, I started to find silver coins, jewelry, and gold. I may not find 300+ silver coins in a year, but I just started last July in the hobby and cannot complain. Your silver is out there, be patient and persistent, it will come to you, regardless of the MD you are using. I've found silver with my BH Tracker-IV as well as with my Minelab E-Trac. I hope this helps. Please keep trying and show off your first silver big time. I'll be waiting to admire it!

Hector hang in their....
I found that I normaly go out and  [detecting]20 to 30 times and may find one silver coin.
When I go out I normally hunt 2 to 4 hrs each outing so added all up thats a lot of  Detecting hrs just
to find that one coin....
However a couple weeks ago I found a 1900 Barber half dollar...That will put a smile on anyones face.
Just think about it,in 1900 that was a chunk of money for them,I am sure somebody had to be real
upset about losing that much money.

That is sweet! Grin One of these days dang it!
I didn't even mention the 21 penny was the oldest coin I've found so far.
Might need to switch to jewelry hunts rather than silver coins.
Most of the places I've been able to check seem to be well hunted.
Todays hunt at a new spot turned up a 1946 penny but no silver or jewelry again.
I'll post the bounty on todays finds.

Go Up Go Down

Theirs a old city park I hunt from time to time just to get out.
I remember when I was a kid[30 yrs ago] their was a lot of people hunting it.
Still today their is a husband and wife team that hunt it alot.
I had never found anything of real value until a couple months ago..
Since everybody was hunting inside the fenced park I decided to hunt along the outside of the fence.
Out in right field of the ballfield on the outside of the fence I found a 1945 merc dime.
People used to stand and kids would play on the fence while the games were being played.

Seems everybody looks inside the fenced park for I have never seen anybody hunting the outside of the fence.
If you know of a place like this that is fenced in try hunting along the fence on the outside.I also found
a lot of clad on the outside of the fence which was my first clue nobody had hunted this area or if it had been
hunted it had to be a long time ago.
If a place is hunted heavy try to look for that place that most people would think would be a waste of their time to hunt
cause thats were that little treasure is just waiting for you to find.

Good luck and just keep on diggin

I agree with all said here. That is exactly what I do when I hunt in city parks and even in the woods. Look around and hunt areas of the park that might look odd to others. Here in Chicago, all the parks and woods have been detected for many years, of course because Chicago is an old city, although not the oldest, but a city wherein there has been a lot of business in the past and historical events have taken place here (First Columbian World Fair, for example). But I have found silver in parks and woods anyways, and I know there are still silver coins everywhere. It's a matter of hunting intuitively and keep your eyes open to clues. In the woods, for example, I look for broken old bottles (thick glass), that's a sign of past human activity right there. And it works, for you always find something interesting if you hunt carefully. HH
