Go Up Go Down

Had a good day, went detecting in AM and point hunting in afternoon. Found lots of cald no silver and 2 delicately made points. Unfortunately they were broken. As you can see, I was not the first at this excavation. I followed another collector's foot prints all over the site picking up the flakes he discarded. He missed the two points I found. He walked right past them. gambol :Smiley

Jinxp,  It is like tracking any other varmit. You look at what you see and go on experience. 1) where small rocks were on the surface, he walked in circles around them, picked some up and threw them down again.  2) The last rain creates a pattern around each rock or flake that lets you know if it was moved.  3) He walked along the tops of the dirt piles for long distances because that is where small rocks are first exposed in a fresh dig. He also walked the entire peremiter at the level of the gray sand where points become concentrated by topsoil erosion. This I did too and found that most artifacts were in the yellow and white sand. The white sand is old. It is beach dune sand laid down by wind during the last ice age. the yellow sand is most likely white sand that was reworked by water. The gray sand is the topsoil. 4) He wasn't passing through. He entered and exited by the same route. --- Ground conditons were perfect for collecting and for tracking. --- Flakes that are discarded in the arrowhead making process serve as clues to where the arrowheads and other artifacts are. they occur in great abundance at places where the indians camped. Some collectors will pick up flakes and then discard them again as they walk, others leave them in little piles along the trail to let other collectors know what to expect. These 'carns' are found everywhere around here.

Tunnels, caves, landmarks and signs are abundant in our sites. My team is composed of 3 americans, 1 swedish and 2 italianos, while on the other team is run by 1 british. They are all theoretical in the approach of searching gold deposits on bunkers while Japanese alliances and the like, of my fellow Treasure Hunters uses Japanese Engineering Techniques used during the year of 1935 and it is hard to do it without the necessary training.

If that person who left those prints was actually looking they Suk pretty bad at it or they were on theyre way out after finding something magnificent. Funny

Very cool to see you got out and hunted, The sooner the better is the way I am going to start looking at it from now on cause I went out by myself yesterday on a HIKE! Well somone else had already done it. Not long before me though and I was expecting to run into the indiividual very soon. Every little bit I would look as far as I could see because prints were so fresh looking but no sign. I think I missed them by at least 20 minutes though. I had the right idea though by not getting annoyed and giving up even though I didnt find anything (what if) so I am glad I went and I KNOW about The socalled competition now (whoever very good) because I am sure there was stuff out there. Did manage a couple pics of Critters though first are a couple softshell turtles and the other may be a young Blue Heron.
