Go Up Go Down

I've had my first metal detector (AT Pro) for 10 days now and have been using it whenever I can, mainly a couple of hours 1st thing in them morning or at night to avoid the summer crowds here on Waiheke.  Have managed to add $52.30NZD ($43.60USD) of clad to the detector repayment kitty, found a couple of 1940's Penny's and a sixpence along with a heap of decimal currency no longer in circulation.

But this morning I managed my first precious metal ring in a childs playground.  Its tiny but is marked MHJ 925 (MHJ = Micheal Hill Jeweler) and has a couple of very tiny stones in it which could be diamond as Micheal Hill commonly puts diamonds in silver jewelry.

My first silver!  Yippee Cool  Now bring on the gold!

Pics below of this mornings hunt:
Top row $2NZD
2nd row $1 (we are the opposite in coins sizes to Australia)
Bottom 10c  and the ring
Side some junk jewelry

Nice ring and some spending money to boot. Looks like that AT Pro is working well for you.

Snow and frozen ground would complicate things a bit!  Personally though, I'm looking forward to winter - our clay soil is baked as hard as concrete at the moment and a pick axe is needed to dig anywhere apart from beaches and playgrounds (not the best for tidy retrieves). A bit of rain will be helpful for the parks and some sites I have researched and will allow my to see if the research pays out.  Winter will also bring in some storms which will take some of the sand build up away.  No snow or ice here.

Then again by winter I will be complaining about it being too wet!  One of the reasons I chose a waterproof detector....

That all depends on how strong the wind blows!!!  Grin

I have been mainly using it on the beaches around here.  In dry sand it is great, in wet salt sand and the water it is very chatty and noisy (worse then a girlfriend who has just learned some hot gossip) but it still rings clear over a find.  I have found that the ground balance normally ends up around 13 -15 and I have to turn the sensitivity down to 2-3 bars - but that is more for my own sanity as I think it will still ring loud and clear with a higher sensitivity setting.  This is in Pro mode of course.  Will be doing some experimenting with it in the saltwater once the holiday crowds have thinned out.

Haaa yes those holiday makers I love it when they leave and even more so when they leave stuff behind for me to find.
