Made it back to one of my favorite hunting grounds today! Not a bad hunt, found 2 mercs., 3 war nickels, Jefferson nickels, 2 buffalo nickels, 2 wheats and a Sterling 925 small bracelet.
Still using the little coil 4.5x7..........Maybe I'll try the water tomorrow since the weather is so nice..

One of those 4 letter words WORK. Plus now it's dark when I get off. I read your post and just wished I could have been outside enjoying the day and finding old nickels & mercs  Smiley Sue

Cyberborikua.............The war nickels were issued from 1942 to 1945....I don't remember the dates on mine, I've already tossed them in the can with others. The buffalo nickel dates aren't legible.
I've been going over the old carnival grounds hunting mostly low tones now to see if I can find  nickels and jewelry. Surprisingly the sterling bracelet hit on a low tone "it's hollow and thin".
By the way what does borikua mean?

Yeah dude, jealous of your weather fit to detect in. I might squeeze out a few more park trips, but my good season is well on its way out.

Cheers

Hi John. No, I know what war nickels are, but was curious about the dates for some coins may be more valuable than others based on how many were minted on specific years and other features like the number of steps in the Monticello on Jefferson nickels. I'd love to find buffalos and I'm sure I will find some in Puerto Rico next summer.

By the way, borikua is my own variation of "Boricua" which means Puerto Rican. It comes from our indigenous Taino name Borik?n. Spaniords called San Juan Bautista, but traders and merchants later called it Porto Rico which means Rich Port because it was a main trade/shipping port. More here:

Take care and happy hunting. Nickels are fun to find!
