Go Up Go Down

It looks like I've finally gotten a piece of jewelery that the fiance' actually likes!  She has had her diamond from me for quite a while now, of coarse, but after a year with my detectors I haven't really found anything that she likes until now.

The last two trips that I have made to my home town park (dates back before 1900) have turned up a silver dime along with a solid silver catholic medal.  I have determined that the medal might be from an all girls school named Mount Carmel that closed down around 1987 when it's girls mostly transfered to the all boy's school that I went to at the time.  I will have to contact a couple of old classmates to see if the crest is recognized.

The ring was found late in the afternoon today while my little girl was playing in a playground.  I was hunting a little ways away in a clearing and came across the silver ring right up against the asphalt road in gravel.

Doesn't that make sense?  I key in on old Cypress and Oak trees that have been around for a century and find my prize for the day next to a road in gravel?  I have also included a quick pic of the "Pony Express" silver bar minted by "Mother Lode" that I posted about recently.  My camera was is broken and I was forced to put up a pic of another bar from ebay.   My bar is pretty close to perfect but not quite.

The funniest thing to me is that three of my nicest pieces thus far were found in the least likeliest of places.  This ring in gravel next to a road.  The silver bar behind a store in a gravel lot full of trash.   My 1952 half dollar appraised at around $80 US right in my own front yard a few feet from the road.

  One good thing though.....

After not knowing whether my last round ball of lead was a musket ball or a fishing weight due to a hole thru the center, I found what I have to say is now my first musket ball at a civil war union fort a couple of weeks ago.  I included it in the group pic.

The camera used in these photos is just my cell phone so I am sorry for the lack of resolution.  If anyone has any questions I can certainly get better pictures.

Those are some nice finds there Triditty. Next to the road is where we all bought our ice cream from the ice cream man. When I was a young the ice cream man came around on a three wheel Harley with the box on the back.  He stoped wherever the kids flagged him down. I find most of my silver coins right next to the road when hunting parks or sidewalks.  Coins will hit the cement and roll to the edge.

Thanx Cache,  I am hoping for the ring's rock to be real since the ring itself is solid silver and it is an engagement ring.

If it is worth enough I just might talk her into letting me sell it for an upgrade in detectors.    I promised myself that I would absolutely never use my own money for my metal detecting hobby.  I can only use money from my finds for upgrades or detecting trips.  This even applies to batteries.  I am due to cash in all of my alloy/ clad coins soon since I have nearly a whole 2lb yogurt container.

I really hate the way those pics came out from my phone.  I have her on the internet right now buying on an Olympus 14 megapixel digital camera on ebay.

Hi TD,
Nice finds keep it up, and I know what you mean when you say the fiancee only likes shiny things I went through that my wife finally gave up as I am a relic hunter, rusty things and musket balls don't cut the mustard...HH...Johnnn

Thanx for the replies everyone. Hello

Maybe I will be able to take time during lunch and get the ring appraised.  That rock is two carrots easy but my bet says it may be a birthstone or cubic Z.  If the rock is real then that thing might go for five figures!  The solid silver band is getting my hopes up. Idiot

Good luck on having it be a wowser  Smiley I'd think it would be due to the silver band. Johnnn, I've always wondered why some people go for relics - now I'm starting to understand  Grin Sue
