Well, we finally found some coins when we were out in a city park on a
very hot day.
Sherry was using the GTP 1350 around the base of a large old maple tree, and got a good hit. I commenced to do the 'excavation' to the 3" to 4" depth indicated. There it was, a rather beat up penny. But a coin, not an odd bit of metal like we had been finding. I chuckled and said that we were on a roll, and she said I could take over swinging.
Within a couple of feet I got a very strong hit, showing 2" deep and bigger than a coin, according to the MD's profiling feature. So I cut the plug, flipped it up and (wow!) right there 'stuck' on the underside of the sod piece were two quarter sized looking coins.
We found a couple more pennies within the next few minutes, still around the same tree. (Yep, also a few pieces of metal trash as well) The oppressive heat soon brought this search to an end.
For us, this was a very exciting event. No silver or jewelry, but still our first coins: 2 quarters and 3 pennies. But for me, it was a very very valuable learning time. You know, that 1350 performed like the book and videos said it could. We are looking forward to sharpening our skills.
Sorry about the rather crummy picture, but i wanted to share anyway.
