I have been spending a lot of time hunched over the computer doing research on a couple local site and today had to get out with the ol' MD!  I went to a local (modern) park, cause they had a softball tourney over the weekend.  Found 19 clad coins!  I dug several aluminum chain links, then had a reading farther into the gold area on the Garret meter.  I dug a mens' gold plated ring.  My fist gold find, and now I know I don't have to keep digging all those damn pull tabs, just because they fall in the lower gold range on the meter! That made the day worth while!

Congratulations on your find but do remember that solid gold DOES very often read like a pull tab. Dig them all, mate. Trust me on that one. It may take a whole lot of digging but when you get that gold ring and look at your detector with a confused look, you'll thank me.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

ya, very true. on my whites 6000 my 18k masonic ring reads as a pull tab in the low gold range. I make it a habit to dig everything in that range. what do you have to loose ?? :Smiley
