TJ, you'll find a lot of die-hard non-believers here.   And you'll find even more who think dowsing might be possible, but that the fancy paraphenalia that the "experts" try to push is a bunch of hooey.   And then you have a few true believers (who may or may not think the gimmicks are hooey.)

If dowsing works (and I'd better believe it is at least possible or my wife will disown me  Smiley ), it works beause people either believe they can or have not been taught they can't..... It's mental, which basically means you have to believe you can without dwelling on your ability to do---focus without focusing on focusing.

You find out you can do it by doing it (of course, if you find something, some people will say it's pure coincidence---others will say you are just allowing you subconscious to pick up and process information you would normally ignore).

Hi B A,
I had a real live close up encounter with a guy who was an "expert" at this art.
When I lived in the UK I used to help our "buddies?" the Archaeologists on emergency digs, this particular dig had ties with Oliver Cromwell and the owners were very impatient to get new foundations in, so they bought in this character "top gun" Archie, now he was strange, he was dressed all in black with a long trench coat down to his ankles and a black stetson hat he was held in great esteem by all present.
What he did with two pieces of rod was to locate all the old foundations of buildings no one knew had existed we then excavated them he was right on.
Then he just disappeared......."just road outa town" HD..........Johnnn

Oliver Cromwell would be the English Civil War and the period between 1640 and 1660....In other words, just about the time the colonies in America were getting established good....The question becomes did the rods actually help him find the foundations or did they simply allow him to focus his vast amount of experience into picking up subtle clues everyone else was missing.

(I can't be too sceptical, my wife's waterwitching grandpa used to take her with him when she was in early elementary school....seems she was more accurate than he was in determing depth....so he'd locate the well and then have her say how deep).
