 Detecting
tim and I went to Rickcets Glen state PA. park last weekend, we searched the pinic table areas, lots of pull tabs and old bottle caps, we then decided to search the parking areas, by searching the area where the passengers would have exited their vehicles, and we were rewarded with quite a few coins and a toe ring, plus a live 270 rifle bullet.
Tim still thinks he is a backhoe.! Violent

I don't know about PA but in TN you can not detect at a State Park!!! better ask a ranger or the similar. Here you can loose detector and a big fine.

As you've discovered, lots of coins get lost as people get in and out of cars.

Detecting is permitted in Pa state parts with prior approval, you may only use a screwdriver, ice pick or similar digging tool. Anything found that will be taken out of the park must be reported to the ranger station. This information is from the FMDAC for more info contact Ryan Borcz (State Park Operations) at (717) 783-3317

thanks to all who replied,
Yes, Prior permission is required in pa. State Parks.
Mostly due to archeologist, They don't want you to remove anything over a hundred years old, even if they are not digging the site.
