The attached picture shows a find from Denmark. It is probably made of lead. Can it be something for games? or is it a weight? or something completely different? Anybody seen such an article before?

Hello Erik Dam

Thanks for the interesting photograph.

What is on the other side is it rounded or smooth or any markings?

Hello Erik Dam

If was to take guess I suspect it a a very early seal with a cross used to press and insignia into wax on parchments or documents. Looking at the quality I estimate perhaps very early dark ages for an early christian low status monk or priest for a small local chapel.Perhaps even made and used at the site of the church.

Early christian Priests were allowed to use seals in their documentation in business of the church and parish. The more elaborate the more higher status was the monk or priest.

It could be a X from a sand cast, those extra connectors are drawn into the forms to fill the hollow area with melted metal and get rid of trapped air bubbles.
