Go Up Go Down

I found it today. My first silver half dollar. 1943 liberty it is. Found it in the front yard of an old house and it came out of the ground in this ladies chain mail coin purse. At first I thought the purse was a can lid. When I picked it up to look at it the half slid out and hit the ground. I dug around and found a lipstick tube beside it but no more coins. The purse top is embossed with a fine flower pattern which I wire brushed to show the pattern. The chain mail is a square pattern. There are two coincidences here. I got my first detector 2 years to the day and 1943 is my birthyear. This one is going on the chain around my neck. The Other photo is some stuff I found at this and other sites.  It was an interesting site. The floor slab was about 15 feet wide and 30 feet long more like a cabin than a house but it had flower beds lined with bricks in the front so I'm pretty sure it was a dwelling.  It sits in the woods behind a long gone railway station which was built in 1883. The railroad was gone by 1946.  I think the house was probably built in the 1920's or 30s judging from the type of block used. An American Holly tree still survives in the yard.

Well done Gambol1   Clapp
A very nice find, both the coin purse and the coin.
One of these days I will get the courage to ask for permission to hunt someone's yard.
But for now, I'm just glad to get out with my MD and  Detecting

Great finds, gambol1!   Great  Great half dollar, too!  Great Congratulations on your first silver Half!  Clapp  Thanks for sharing.

Robroy, don't worry about being afraid to ask permission.  You're not searching the yards now, what' the worst that can happen;  the landowner will say 'no' or 'go away' and you still won't be hunting it!   But if they say 'yes' you will have a great opportunity to find good stuff!  Good luck on that!   Detecting

I'm still waiting for my first metal purse.   And congrats on the half.  The walking liberty is a thing of beauty.
