I've got a 7 yr old that likes to go with me. If I could get her to get as excited about the coins as she is about the worms I'll have it made.  LOL

Go Up Go Down

I took my 8 yr old girl to the corner of a cane field that used to have a house on it ( Thanks Google earth's 1989 sat view).  Every single time I would find something, she would take it and throw it in the bed of my truck after explaining that she needed that part for her sculpture.  After a dozen or so items I asked her what sculpture and she told me a mother;'s day present for mom.

Ain't that cute?  She never made a sculpture but I'll bet that she would fuss if I took that trash out of the bed of my truck! Funny

That's a awesome find. Everytime I find something, it just keeps me going to look for more!
I've got to get the techniques down with my detector...everyone seems to be finding things except for me. How deep do most people have to dig before they find a gold ring or a MERC?
My husband and I are newbies!!
CONGRATS!! on your finds....

Nice find! I have found some nice jewelry items, collectable coins and other neat items of historical value but my wife still won't venture out and "hunt" with me. Maybe someday she'll come around to my way of thinking.  Idiot

Hello JK,

Just hang in there & keep going out mate, use a little more or alittle less disc, and adjust your sensitivity the same, but better yet use the presets and you will have a change of luck for the better!

Maybe go to another lot or place your detecting, many times an area has been hit many times by other Thunters and is pretty well fresh out of buried loot, so change where your going to a new location that look promissing & you'll get some good solid hits I'm sure.  Great

Good luck,
Jim

Poseidon Jim has good advice.  I am just about wrapping up my first year at this hobby and I find that one thing has helped me to get that vital experience needed to make the most of my first few months of hunts.     I spent a lot of time in my own yard trying out new tactics.  I am lucky enough to have a yard that used to be the front of an old dairy.  After getting to know my units, I got more out of the other properties that I got permission to hunt.  Since people really don't want you to show up at their properties a dozen times years after you get permission, I tried to make the most out of the time(s) that I could go.  Making sure that you "paint" the ground with your inside coil is important as well.

I can also tell you that I nearly doubled my silver coin take out of my own yard by using my sniper (4inch) coil in the highly trafficked areas.  If you do find that your unit is having trouble locking in on good targets due to the trash in areas like near the doorways or gates in fences, then try the sniper coil and you might be surprised at what you find. Shocked
