Hey all!! Found the 42' Liberty and Jewelry today. The spoon was found yesterday. Can anyone give an opinion as to how old it may possibly be? I'm not the most computer savvy dude and I could find nothing online about the age of the spoon. It's very light and easily bendable, showed as a quarter. Sorry about the quality of the pics, the batteries were dying as I was taking the pics...

I was thinking the same thing...sugar spoon. Just curious as to how old it may be. Found it about 8 inches down. Doesn't feel like it's a heavy duty spoon, very thin and light. Found it in my backyard. The farmhouse I live in was built in 1910.

Are there any markings on the spoon?

Nope, unfortunately...no markings. This is one of the reasons I can't seem to find it's possible age online. I'm thinking it may have been made specifically for a Jewish family that lived in this house from 1930-1950. They were wealthy and were rumored to have buried stuff around the property. Could have been made for them back home and then brought here? I honestly haven't found much of anything on this property except for this spoon, a wheat pennie (1944), and a quarter from 1980. Lots of trash and old bits of horse bridals.

Took the spoon to a local antiques dude and he found a makers mark with his jewelers loupe. The spoon is from a set that was made in the 1920's by a company called National Silver Company out of NYC . Most likely made specifically/custom for the owner because the pattern does not match any of the commercial line silver/flatware they made from the late 1800's to 1950 when they stopped producing flatware.

Congratulations on the finds, and on finding information on the spoon.  Thanks for sharing.  Very cool!               Detecting
