Dear Martin,
  
 Thank-you for your enquiry – Your find is the front of a livery button (missing the attachment loop at the back).  Livery buttons adorned the uniforms of employees/members of households and usually carried the crest, arms or insignia of the family name carried by the household.  The majority of such buttons are usually dated to the 1800s or early 1900s.

Having just had another quick look I’ve found this website which indicates a link with the motto to the Crewe family at Calke Abbey which seems a more reasonable link in geographical terms
 
On balance it looks like it is a Calke Abbey livery button – See:
