Go Up Go Down

Greetings, I was out with my Minelab Excalibur last week and found an interesting copper piece.
I think it is a squashed penny, because there is a set of railroad tracks very close by.
I have included in the pictures a 1973 copper penny for comparison.
Please let me know if you agree.

Yep! That's what it looks like to me.  Looks just like the ones we'd put on the railroad tracks near my house when I was a kid in the 1950's, then stand back and wait for the train to come by...  looks like the results of that!   Grin  Good times!              Wise

That's probably true, Homie!  They'd throw your butt in jail just becase you were standing along the tracks looking like you waiting for something to happen.

So ArfieBoy, homefire, how many pennies did you have to place to allow you to find one after the train passed?
I can just imagine that they would travel quite a bit.
Thanks for the feedback, HH Robroy59

I don't remember them going very far at all.  Usually they were in the vicinity of where we placed them on the tracks.  Some we had to hunt around for, but they were pretty close to where they started!   Victory   Devil   Cool

All my pennies look like that before I turn loose of them.

Never had any travel more the a wheel width away.

Most times you can see them pushed off the track.

You loose them when they work there way into the float rock.

Where i live, if you put a coin on the RR tracks i doubt you would see it again. all the trains that go through here are coal trains most of which are a kilometer ( 1.6 miles ) ( or is it the other way round ? ) long it would probably end up part of the tracks lol. I worked at a private boarding school, a few years back as a chef. The head chef ( an Englishman ) told me how as a child they would put half pennies on the tracks and once they had a good pile they would set up a roadside stall and sell them to gullible tourist's as roman coins, they claimed to have dug up in a field. apparently there used to be good money in burnt clay pots as well. lol

Ah, the vagrancies of youth.   Shocked   Funny
Just think, you can now dig up real Roman coins using your MD, and have your kids sell them to tourists.
Big money, or just a pipe dream?  I have to figure out ways to help pay for my MD addiction.
