I settled on a minelab 305 and so far I am very pleased with it. I have about 5 hours use on it and 1 of them has been in my friends back yard. I have found tons of clad coins in his yard and a bunch of "whatsits" but so far my favorite finds are a ink printing plate about the size of a us one dollar coin and a pretty good size stainless steel ball bearing. I dug the printing plate at about 8 inches and the ball bearing was at about 9 inches. They both rang up with a VID of 32 which made me think they were pennies.

Printing plates are always fun finds (and pretty good conversation pieces)
