Yup, I'm officially addicted.  Got my first gold ring this morning, only 9ct but a chunky number.  Made the embarrassing mistake of slipping it onto my ring finger only to find it wouldn't come off!  Shocked  Ended up having to coat the finger with olive oil and grimacing with pain as I forced it over the joint.  Learn something new every day - in this case don't try on the rings!!  Grin

Nice find! I found a nice chunky last summer, it had 14k written on the inside, problem is all of the gold was off the ring, only weird looking metal left, still kept it though! Thanks for sharing!

Good Deal!

9K is just over 1/3 gold.    What does it weigh?  6,7Grams?

More then that.  I have a set of digital scales on order, but using a very inaccurate balance scale made from steel ruler and local coinage for counter weights it comes out to 15g, thus around $250USD in melt value.

Its going to the local police station for their lost and found, but if it is not claimed in 3 months then it will go nicely towards paying for the detector.

For that to have happened it must have been plated or rolled?  If so, was there any other markings on it like "G.F" or "R.G.P"?

Awsome find, I went out yesterday in NJ on a Sandy beach water hole but the sand was frozen solid to the top, I guess I'll have to live through your finds till the thaw!

Awesome find, especially with the price of gold these days. I've been wanting a water machine for a long time and hopefully I'll find a deal this year.

Nice find - a lot of the new rings are going to be gold plated over silver just because the value of gold  but that does not take away from the feeling of finding your first  congrats -- Bob T.

Nice ring find...gold or gold plated rings and things will get your
blood pumping. Did the "ring stuck on the finger" thing too. LOL

Go Up Go Down

One of the first things the ladies at the police station did was to weigh it on their scales.  13g so I wasn't too far off with the ruler and coin contraption.  They will contact me if the person who lost it contacts them, which would be good if it does happen.  On the other hand there was a bit of Gollum in me - "My Preciousssss....."  But if I lost a ring I would like the finder to hand it in so its only right to do the same.  Here if it is not claimed in 3 months the police hand it back to the finder (I have a receipt).

Luck hasn't left me yet as last night while beach hunting I found a shilling, sixpence, threepence (silver), and a few pennies including one from 1919 (George V Commonwealth of Australia - we didn't mint in NZ in those days).
Heading out again shortly to see what else is buried under those sands  Detecting
