well it has been quite some time since i've been detecting due to the extremely hot summer. my brother and i have been waiting for the cooling temperatures so we can get heavily into detecting here again.

we decided to give it a shot yesterday morning. the weather called for a low around 50 in the morning and 70's in the afternoon. it was an absolutely beautiful day to be outdoors.

there was some good erosion this year and we hit an area of the local beaches where we knew erosion would likely be just a bit better than other areas of the beach. when we arrived we discovered that the beach had been wiped out more than we have seen in years and had we known we would have been there weeks ago. apparently the one storm that skirted the coast here did the damage.

the finds were beauties. one 18 kt charm, one 18 kt id bracelet, one 14 kt ladies bracelet, one 14 kt chain. we got lucky that these finds were shallow enough to detect. we all know how hard it is to detect necklaces and chains. besides the jewelry we found over 300 coins in the four hours. no lack of signals and many aches and pains and stiffness for both of us today but we had a ball. hope you enjoy the photos of the finds.

here is a group shot and some individual close ups

viking,

on this particular day i was using the old  original 90's model sovereign xs and my brother was using the old 80's model white's eagle ii sl. we have been detcting over 20 years now. over the years on the beaches up north and down south i have used the minelab explorer, excaliber, quattro, fisher cz's, white's beach hunter, whites dfx and numerous other machines both old and new.
in my opinion most of the newer machines are not as stable or consistent as these 2 machines are that we use on a regular basis. they handle mineralization well and they get great depth. so as i said just my opinion but each time i've gone to a new machine i'm greatly disappointed that i can out perform any of them with these 2 machines. at least here.
here's an interesting tidbit. this particular model that my brother was using of the whites eagle 2 sl had a circuitry issue involved in a teknetics lawsuit and then whites had to make a modification. we did purchase the following eagle 2 sl model i believe it was in 1990, that whites released, but this model that we have from the 80's pre-lawsuit is better it is just phenomenal and consistent on coins, relics, and jewelry. it really shines. and the minelab is untouchable even by other minelabs-again in my opinion only. Smiley

Thanks for getting back to me.
I happen to be the agent for First Texas Products in South Africa, however I started with a 505 and I must tell you it was a great machine.
I think that a lot of it has to deal with personal experience and when you have a machine that you are absolutely comfortable with and that you trust in what it's telling you, then you will most likely never be truly happy with another.
Man that was a bang up job you did on that beach. My best ever was two small gold rings on one morning. They had been there for a while because when I slipped one onto my finger it kind of shattered.I figured that all the not so precious components of the alloy had leached out over the years.
Congrats again Clapp

viking,

well my brother and i got out again yesterday morning for a few hours and he managed one 14 kt ring and one  10kt ring. i found some indian head cents. another great day. turns out between the 2 days the gold weighs out at over an ounce. happy about that with the current gold prices.

i've never heard of gold shattering like you experienced with the ring. was it low carat or some plating. gold being a soft metal my only guess is that it might not have been 14 kt or higher. it is strange that it happened. i love hearing the oddities that we treasure hunter experience and share. happy hunting.
