That's awesome! He must really be hurting for cash because IMO that seems crazy to part with such a find! Keep the posts coming!  Smiley

Farmdigger, if you don't convert the high value items to cash, it seems pointless to call it treasure. There surely must be another name for something of value that you keep irrespective of the dollar value.

I convert everything to cash that has a value over the amount of $100.00. That's arbitrary and will vary from person to person. I can't take it with me and even if I catalog everything so my heirs can figure out what to do with the stuff I have collected, there's no guarantee it won't wind up in a landfill for someone like me to find in the future. Cash, my kids can figure out just fine. A button? Looks like junk to them.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

For a good price I would part with anything I have found. It's just a thing to me and having extra money to buy everyday goods is what I'm after. Choosing the time at which to sell can be tricky when it comes to gold, silver and precious stones. That was a good find for the gentleman......John in Va

I suppose he is just a treasure hunter than. Not a relic hunter/collector. If something I found truly fascinated me, and I wasn't expected to kick the bucket in the next dozen years or so and wasn't desperate for money than I would keep it. Would be exciting to pull it out of the drawer from time to time and think about the significance of it. But I am young and have found few fascinating items. To each his own.

When I was young and starting out I collected everything, over the years I have sold off most collections and keep little of what I find. I will set on gold and silver till the market is up but most things are sold within weeks of being found.

I don't see the problem with selling it.  He found it and I am sure he will remember this find for the rest of his life.  Now he can sell it and let someone else get some enjoyment out of it.

the button never sold, if they lowered it to under 1k it probably would have. This person is a greedy pig in my opinion who has no reality of what to sell something for. i just alert fellow GW hunters another button was found and catolog it with the rest.

Nice button / terrific find!!

Indeed, it probably would have sold for under $1K.  I just checked Heritage's archives, and the specimens I see similar to the one you posted sold for $956.00.
