Go Up Go Down

A small envelope fell from an old rocking chair as the new owner, planning to do restoration, removed the seat. "finders keepers" said the note with a key attached. Location named, key opens lead chest with gold coins buried 12 feet deep. . . . .

I hope for their sake that the treasure really does exist!  Finding it would be a great ending to this story! Smiley

Nice to meet you sanddigger - know exactly what you mean. This treasure hunt did not turn out so well - the person who left the note was identified as a prankster and had a feud going with the property owner where the gold was supposedly buried and, I guess, was hoping to see his land vandalized. It kind of backfired as so many years went by before the note was found. The prankster died 30 years ago and x is just an empty lot now. I read where the gold coins did exist, but were passed on in a will.

Although I wish a cache of gold had been found, that's actually a pretty funny conclusion to the story!

I thought it was kind of funny, too. The prankster worked for a local newspaper so was well known - people living there still remember him. Reaching out from the grave and touching their lives with a delayed prank. The finder of the note, I'm sure was disappointed, but seemingly ok with it in one of the news articles I read. Sue

Sounds like she knew there was a good possibility that it was a prank.  But I would've had to check it out, too!  Makes for a good story for many years to come...

Hi sanddigger, Yes, that has been a very expensive one. Dont have to look very far - it has been pretty well covered on this website.
